"Hi, I’m Lesley Smith and I’m ready to fight for accessible, affordable education for every hardworking Coloradan."
Lesley has spent thirty years as a scientist and educator at CU, served for eight years on her local school board managing a $400 million budget, and was the first woman aquanaut to live and work in the Aquarius underwater research lab. She is exceptionally qualified to take on the challenges facing Colorado’s flagship university system and will:
fight for accessible, affordable education for every hardworking Coloradan
ensure that CU offers students an excellent, relevant education that equips them with the critical thinking skills to be workforce-ready
work hard to attract strong funding for a strong CU system
P.S. Why does it matter? By the numbers:
6 to 3. As the Daily Camera stated last year, “The regents have taken up such politically charged topics such as guns, the environment, fossil fuels, diversity, discrimination against Republicans at CU and others. They voted in 2008 to hire Bruce Benson, the 1994 Republican nominee for governor, on a 6-3 party-line vote.”
9. The 9 members on the Board of Regents set policy for the entire CU system, they approve the budget and set tuition rates, and this year they will hire a new President.
12,000,000,000. CU is the 3rd largest employer in Colorado, pumping $12 billion into our state annually.
